Why Fedora Honors Its Contributors
The Fedora Project doesn’t just rely on code commits and bug fixes — it thrives because of the people who dedicate their time, expertise, and passion to the community. From writing test cases to onboarding newcomers, from crafting technical documentation to organizing global events, these individuals form the backbone of Fedora’s success. Their consistent efforts ensure the community remains vibrant, inclusive, and innovative.

That’s why the Fedora Contributor Recognition Program exists: to shine a spotlight on those whose contributions go above and beyond. In 2026, the program returns with a special focus on two groups — mentors and contributors — who have shaped the project in meaningful ways. The awards will be presented during the Flock to Fedora 2026 conference, in coordination with the Fedora Mentor Summit 2026.

Nomination Categories
This year, we are celebrating two distinct but equally vital roles:
- Mentors: Those who guide newcomers, share knowledge, and foster growth. Whether they help new contributors navigate their first patch or provide long-term support, mentors are the foundation of Fedora’s welcoming culture.
- Contributors: The champions who drive projects forward through technical work, community building, event coordination, documentation, or any other area that strengthens Fedora.
If you know someone whose dedication has reshaped the Fedora landscape or helped you personally begin your journey, now is the perfect time to nominate them.
Award Ceremony at Flock to Fedora 2026
The winners will be announced live during Flock to Fedora 2026, the annual gathering of the Fedora community. This year’s event will also host the Fedora Mentor Summit, making it an ideal venue to honor those who exemplify mentorship and contribution. The ceremony will celebrate not only the awardees but also the spirit of collaboration that defines Fedora.
How to Nominate
Nomination Guidelines
Nominating a Fedora hero is straightforward. You can nominate any individual — including yourself — who has made a significant impact. Consider the following criteria:

- Duration and consistency of contributions
- Impact on the community (e.g., mentoring, technical leadership, event organization)
- Innovation or initiative that moved a project forward
- Ability to inspire and motivate others
Each nomination should include a brief explanation of why the nominee deserves recognition. All submissions will be reviewed by a committee of community leaders.
